History at Anton Junior School

Our Vision for History

At our school, we believe that History should inspire curiosity, critical thinking, and a deep understanding of the world. We want our children to see themselves as historians asking thoughtful questions, examining evidence, and developing informed interpretations of the past. Through the study of History, pupils gain insight into how the past has shaped the world they live in today and how it continues to influence their own lives and communities.

Our History curriculum is carefully designed around our golden threads, which run through every unit and year group. These threads ensure that knowledge, concepts, and skills are revisited and strengthened over time, allowing children to build securely on prior learning. Each unit connects meaningfully to what has come before, and each year deepens understanding, helping pupils to make links across periods, places, and themes.

We aim for children to leave our school with a coherent and connected understanding of History, a secure grasp of key historical concepts, and the confidence to think critically about the past. By the time they move on, our pupils will not only have strong historical knowledge, but also the curiosity, vocabulary, and analytical skills needed to understand the wider world and their place within it.

Below shows our school overview of History learning.
