Educating the Whole Child



We believe that phonics is valuable for all children to decode new and increasingly difficult vocabulary. It supports reading, writing and spelling and enables children to have a greater understanding of words. Teachers model segmenting and blending words and demonstrate the importance of applying phonics knowledge in different reading and writing contexts.


Some children across KS2 will need additional support with reading. Therefore, we use a KS2 appropriate phonics intervention program, Project X Code. Project X Code engages children through a series of books that have an exciting, adventure-themed story line. Children work in small groups, practicing specific sounds which are based on regular assessments. They practice the sounds in isolation and through reading the Project X Code books and are supported by class teachers and learning support assistants.
